OUR PURPOSE AND VALUES

Purpose:

The purpose of Chingford and Woodford Green Community Independents is to mobilise support across the two boroughs to fight for our common, progressive goals through public campaigning and through standing for elected positions. We are committed to grass-roots democracy and developing policy through practical engagements with our local communities. While we are focused on the local, many of the issues that we are addressing will require regional, national or international solutions. We are committed to working alongside people and organisations who share our progressive goals across the country.

Values:

We seek to transform Britain through the redistribution of wealth and power to create a genuinely democratic and equal society that responds to the needs and wishes of local communities for future generations and the environment. Truly democratic policy making must ensure that all can contribute equally to developing our agendas. We oppose all forms of racism and discrimination. We are committed to treating each other with respect and ensuring that all feel free to contribute to discussions and debate, and we expect all members to work together to ensure that this happens in practice.

HOW WE WORK

HOW WE WORK

Local struggles, national change

The issues facing Chingford & Woodford Green — a crumbling Whipps Cross, broken bridges, decaying high streets — are symptoms of a broken economy and a corrupt political class. Food banks, underfunded schools, and unaffordable housing are the result of a system rigged against us. We fight locally while working to transform the system nationally.

Challenge power

We don’t serve party machines or corporate interests. We work for our community — every part of it. That means listening, uniting, and acting for everyone — not just those with the loudest voices or deepest pockets — and it means opposing those who want to divide us. We will work by listening to our community and collaborating with other like-minded individuals and groups to address the issues that hold us back.

The common good

The establishment fears organised, independent voices because we can’t be controlled. We won’t just "do good community work" to mop up the mess our rigged economic system is creating. We’ll challenge, expose, speak the truth, and weaken the structures that keep people powerless. We’ll keep up the pressure to get what this community needs.
