OUR PURPOSE AND VALUES

OUR PURPOSE AND VALUES

Purpose

The purpose of Chingford and Woodford Green Community Independents is to mobilise support across the two boroughs to fight for our common, progressive goals through public campaigning and through standing for elected positions. We are committed to grass-roots democracy and developing policy through practical engagements with our local communities. While we are focused on the local, many of the issues that we are addressing will require regional, national or international solutions. We are committed to working alongside people and organisations who share our progressive goals across the country.

Values

We seek to transform Britain through the redistribution of wealth and power to create a genuinely democratic and equal society that responds to the needs and wishes of local communities. Truly democratic policy making must ensure that all can contribute equally to developing our agendas. We oppose all forms of racism and discrimination. We are committed to treating each other with respect and ensuring that all feel free to contribute to discussions and debate, and we expect all members to work together to ensure that this happens in practice.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

WHAT WE STAND FOR

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Reshaping Britain from the bottom-up

Reshaping Britain from the bottom-up

We believe in a truly democratic and equal society, one that responds to the needs and wishes of local communities. Our vision extends beyond addressing local symptoms and seeks to transform Britain through the redistribution of wealth and power.

Equality

Equality

We believe in a society where inequality is challenged and reduced. Everyone deserves a fair chance, regardless of their class, race, or gender. This means policies that uplift all members of our community and dismantle the barriers holding them back.

A united community

A united community

We are unapologetically antiracist and against the xenophobia we hear from many politicians.

Collaboration

Collaboration

We know that there are other good people out there with similar values to ours in other community groups and political representatives, from the Greens to new emerging parties. We will work with anyone to achieve what’s best for our community.

Strong public services

Strong public services

Adequately funded public services, including excellent healthcare, quality education, and reliable local infrastructure are the backbone of our communities. From Whipps Cross Hospital to Broadmead Road Bridge, we’re seeing critical infrastructure being allowed to wither and decay – we will not be silenced by party machinery that does not prioritise our public assets.

Peace

Peace

We promote understanding, cooperation, and non-violent solutions within and beyond our communities. In the true tradition of the wartime generation, our care for people should extend beyond those we know. We are resolutely against the genocide that Israel is committing in Palestine, and believe our government is not doing enough to stop it.
